BYOD for 2014

The Federal government DER program for Year 9 will end this year. To replace this program we are embarking on a Bring Your Own Device, (BYOD) program in 2014 with Years 9 to 12 by the end of term one and with Years 7 to 8 to follow. If you are intending to purchase a computer device for your son/s over the Christmas break please refer to the following websites and the information provided on the Epping Boys High School website.

The NSW DEC has been working with Lenovo, Dell and Acer to provide a range of devices that can most effectively support student learning and usage needs in a school context. Devices need to be portable, robust and have sufficient battery life to operate for a school day. These devices have been made available for parents to purchase through a number of websites, (see below) please read the Epping Boys High School BYO Device Specifications document prior to selecting a device from the following websites. The document can be found on the school website by clicking on Curriculum & Activities eLearning Bring Your Own Device, (BYOD) or entering the following link into a browser.

We strongly recommend that you choose one of the 5 approved devices available on the following portal.

Learning With Technology:

NB. While similar devices may be obtained at a cheaper price from retail stores, these retail stores may not provide ecteded onsite warranties and insurance cover.

You may also wish to look at Lenovo's portal.

While parents may wish to purchase devices not on the list to save money, these devices may not be robust enough to survive in the school environment. If Parents chose to do this and there is an issue with the compatibility of a device with the schools network the school cannot guarantee that the device will function on the school network.

We know that parents will have a lot of questions and we will be scheduling a number of evening meetings in early Term 1 to outline our plans and implement the program. Further information will be posted on the school website as soon as it is available.
